Notes: Formerly known as non-California (non-CA) Coccidioides immitis, C. posadasii was described in 2002 (Fisher MC et al., Mycologia 2002; 94:73-84) as a new species that is morphologically identical to C. immitis but genetically distinct. C. immitis is found solely in California’s San Joaquin valley, whereas C. immitis and C. posadasii co-exist in the desert southwest of the United States and Mexico.
